Test Drive Meme #1

The sun is shining and the weather is nice and toasty. Overly toasty one might argue, even. It's a great day to be laying around at the beach, so it's a good thing that that's where you've found yourself today, whether you'd made plans to be there or not. Bathing suit and sunscreen ready, you're going to get your tanning time on.
But with heat comes the expected side effects for a place like Proxima Gamma. While the cool water can sometimes slow the effects, the heated beaches and freshly popped flowers seem to have made getting close to someone else just seem like a really great idea. You can try to fight off the side effects much as you want, but the scientists like to believe everyone has a breaking point.

[But as she drew near, the smell of the barbecue captivated her. It had been early spring in Karakura Town, so it had been a while since she'd encountered the familiar smell, and it definitely got her stomach to rumble.]
[Then she sees him shoot fire out of his freaking hand.]
WOW! Wow, that's amazing!
[Not shy in the slightest, she runs right over, openly amazed.]
How did you do that? Do you have superpowers?
no subject
You hit the nail on the head there. [He holds out his hand and flames engulf it. The flames dance higher above his hands and start taking on different shapes as he shows off his control.]
no subject
That's incredible! How did you get your powers? Was it something you were born knowing?
[She can't help being curious, and since he seems so open about it, Orihime feels safe enough to ask her questions without feeling invasive.]
I'm Orihime Inoue. Pleased to meet you!
no subject
No, I got them in space. I got hit by some cosmic radiation and it altered me. I can actually set my entire body on fire and fly. I'd remonstrate, but unless you want me standing before you naked, then that might not be a good idea. [Not that Johnny had issue with anyone seeing him naked.]
Johnny Storm. It's a pleasure to meet you.

[Okay, she's completely won over. She's entertained the hopes of becoming an astronaut herself someday. How lucky that she found someone who's been through the rigors of the application process and the training! Now she'll know what to expect and how to prepare...which means he might wind up seeing a lot of her in this place, so long as he doesn't mind her enthusiasm and curiosity.]
[As for standing before her naked...]
A-ah ha ha ha...! Well...I can wait until you find something to wear that isn't flammable. Clothes aren't cheap!
[But she's been here long enough to know that she wouldn't particularly mind. There's just no good way to say that without sounding dirty.]
Have you been here long?
no subject
I have a suit that doesn’t burn from my powers at all. It’s full body. [So it wouldn’t have been ideal for the beach. At least not with the material that it was made from.]
Three or four weeks. Not really that long, but long enough to get used to this place. [At least somewhat.]
no subject
[But she definitely wants to know more about him, astronaut, superhero, and otherwise.]
And if you wouldn't mind, I'd love a demonstration. We can wait until it's night time, so it won't be so hot to wear it...around...
[She realizes she's trying to be thoughtful of his temperature when he can literally set himself on fire.]
...Actually that probably isn't a problem for you, is it? Ha ha!
[She bows a little, beaming. He's very easy to talk to, she notes, and she's got a good feeling that they'll probably be friends.]
That's good. You have a relaxed air about you! It's nice to see.
no subject
It’s a lot of fun. We can talk about it anytime. And I can show you my powers anytime too. Heat doesn’t bother me. You could throw boiling hot water on me and all you will succeed in doing is making me wet.
[It was a great ability to have. He wasn’t even bothered by the cold. He could walk outside in a blizzard in only a pair of boxers and remain fine. He flips a few burgers on the grill.]
I can say the same about you. You seem really easy going, especially for someone ending up kidnapped and in some random place. You want something to eat? I have burgers and hotdogs.
no subject
[Yes to ALL of those things. Well...not yes to throwing boiling water on him, she could never bring herself to do something like that even for the sake of science. What if the scientists decided to dim his powers because he was resisting an experiment? That would be horrible timing. But for now, she's perfectly content to spend her time on the beach with him just like this. She didn't expect to meet a new friend here, so she's glad she followed her whims.]
Me? Well, it took a little getting used to!
[She smiles, holding her hands behind her back.]
Everyone's been really nice and supportive. And I wasn't forced into any awkward situations. I've been really lucky!
[And she's grateful for that. There's a sense of camaraderie between all of the victims here that she really admires. Each person seems willing to help one another out.]
Besides, I'm sure we'll be able to return home again someday. I can meet a lot of interesting new people here that I wouldn't back home. So there are some positive sides to it all, ne?
no subject
Though Orihime could heal that right up for him.But he’d be happy with showing her more of his heat resistance and just what he could do. Honestly, he could fry a steak on his abs if he wanted to.]We are all stuck in the same situation, we really don’t have a choice but to have each others backs. [He just hoped everyone felt that way, though. There was no need to stir up trouble when they were all in an unknown place.] I’d say you met at least one really interesting person so far.
[He’s referring to himself, of course. Orihime would probably learn in time that Johnny has a pretty large ego.]
What do you want? Hot dog or burger? [He'd brought enough of both that he could stand to give some out to hungry people.]
no subject
[He'll find that she doesn't really mind people with large egos, and she certainly doesn't mind offering genuine praise either.]
One hot dog, please. Thank you so much! I'll repay you with cake at my bakery, feel free to drop in at any time!
[Again she glances at the surfboard, remembering why she'd come in the first place.]
You can surf too?
no subject
[He points to a little cooler on the ground.]
And some drinks too. Feel free to help yourself. [He returns to the grill.]
I couldn’t tell that you were a baker. I’ll definitely stop by, though. [He does love himself some sweets.]
I do. Surf, snowboard, dirtbiking. [He just loved extreme sports.]
no subject
[She helps herself to the ketchup and mustard. And relish. And mayonnaise if it's there. Hot dogs were meant for condiments, and she's a big fan. And since he offered, she'll gladly take a soda too, cracking open the can as she sits in the sand to keep up their conversation. He's definitely an interesting person, and she's glad he seems sociable.]
It's one of my passions. I'd like to own a cake shop of my own someday. As long as I'm here, though, I might as well get a head start, ne? I can practice my recipes and get critique, so when I go home, I'll know which items to keep on the menu.
[Her eyebrows rise as he mentions his sporting interests. Those are all things she wanted to try, but money and location prevented her from experimenting.]
Wow! It sounds like you were born to be a hero, you have an amazing sense of adventure!
no subject
You know it. Have you ever done any of that stuff?
no subject
[She sips from her soda, then smiles.]
Not yet. But I'd love to learn! Next time you go, let me know. I'd be happy to join in!

[She takes another bite, humming in appreciation of the good food. Hot dogs definitely taste better off of a grill.]
But I'm a fast learner, and I'm pretty good at sports. You won't be disappointed in me, sensei!
[Orihime salutes, a show of playful respect and appreciation. She's definitely looking forward to this!]

[They're not very practical, though. Still, hitting a soccer ball with a bat was a lot of fun, so it was well worth the attempt at the very least.]
It's actually hard to think of a sport I don't like.
no subject
You might pick it up pretty fast then. I imagine you must have good balance alright, right?
no subject
[It's probably wise that she doesn't tell him she used to get hit by cars fairly often when she was younger, or he might have reservations in teaching her. But she definitely wasn't clumsy, she could claim that much.]
And I've seen a few movies where people go surfing, so I have a vague idea of what to do.

[Although the thought of him helping her out onto the surfboard does ignite a little something... Yes, definitely best to get her own surfboard, she thinks to herself as she quickly shoves the other idea out of her head. She came here to make friends, not flirt. What would he think of her otherwise?]
Th...thanks! Is there anything I can help you with in return?
no subject
[She had no idea that she was speaking to the flirt master. Had he been the one to stumble across her, the first thing he would have done was hit on her.]
Nothing comes to mind at the moment.
no subject
[She'd been planning to go get one after she finishes the last bite of her hot dog, but if he wants to go with her, she should wait until he's finished grilling.]
Well...a favor, then. Maybe something will come to mind later!
