Test Drive Meme #1

The sun is shining and the weather is nice and toasty. Overly toasty one might argue, even. It's a great day to be laying around at the beach, so it's a good thing that that's where you've found yourself today, whether you'd made plans to be there or not. Bathing suit and sunscreen ready, you're going to get your tanning time on.
But with heat comes the expected side effects for a place like Proxima Gamma. While the cool water can sometimes slow the effects, the heated beaches and freshly popped flowers seem to have made getting close to someone else just seem like a really great idea. You can try to fight off the side effects much as you want, but the scientists like to believe everyone has a breaking point.

[She almost forgets what he said before about making a demonstration, so she very nearly asks if she can see it. Luckily, she spots the surf shop, and straightens immediately.]
Oh, there it is! Wow, they even have tiki torches...
[She could put one on the balcony of her apartment! But they're probably not for sale. Grinning back at Johnny, she reaches for his arm to pull him along as she races for the shop, laughing.]
Hurry, before they close!
[They're not going to close.]

I'm coming, I'm coming!

[The shopkeep looks up, bored, then looks back at the magazine.]
All boards are fifty dollars, or one round of sex, your choice.
[He says it so complacently that she almost completely misses it. Orihime gapes at him, but he's more interested in his magazine.]
Erm...I'm...paying with cash, please.
[He just grunts, not even glancing up at her.]
no subject
Okay..cash it is. [Johnny says.]
So you are going to one a board that is at least a foot taller than you. And one that's about three inches thick.
no subject
So something about your height, then! Let's see...
[She walks slowly, studying the top of his head to see which boards come to his height.]
What does the thickness affect? Does that make it more sturdy?

[He passes in front of a teal and lime green tiger-striped board that looks to be about his height. Orihime runs in front of him and steps forward, to herd him back so she can compare his height. That looks to be about what she should get.]
How's this one?
[The design is garish, but she's not really paying attention to what the board actually looks like. It just needs to fit the specifications.]
no subject
If that's the one that you want, I don't see anything wrong with going with it.

[She thought this would take a lot longer, but if she's got her board now, then she can start learning now! She can't get her money out of her beach bag fast enough, slapping it down on the counter before she grabs hold of the board and tucks it under her arm, racing out the door.]
Let's go! Ah ha ha ha!
no subject
Don't trip and break that board right after you got it.

[She salutes playfully, running out into the waves until she feels the push of the ocean against her knees. --Oh right, her teacher needs his board too. So she turns and waits, beaming from ear to ear as she allows him to fetch his. ...Or does he mean to teach her personally?]
no subject
Okay. We are going to go out together and I will show you the proper way to stand in the water.

[She hesitates, and again the same flush of emotions teases at the corners of her mind. It's actually been a long time since someone has had such an effect on her, and she's not sure what to do about that. Is this part of the experiment, or is it her own feelings? Should she warn him? ...Well...perhaps not yet. Not until she's certain what's going on, and why even the mere thought of his closeness quickens her blood.]
Okay, sounds good! How far out should we wade?

[She waits for Johnny to pass, then keeps a tight hold of her board as she sloshes after him. When the water gets too deep, she kicks off of the sandy bottom and kicks, both hands on her board turned sideways to keep her buoyed above the waves.]
no subject
Alright. We can start out lesson here.

[She paddles toward him, her hair streaming out behind her. Carefully, oh so carefully, she maneuvers the surfboard so that it's floating beside them, as she wouldn't want to hit him in the head.]
[But she accidentally bumps the side of his head with the surfboard anyway. Oops.]
Gah! Sorry, my mistake!
no subject
It's fine. Okay. Slide off the board and get into the water. I'm going to show you how to move from a laying position into a standing position.
no subject
That sounds like it would be the hardest part! How do you do it?
no subject
[He demonstrates as he starts to get up. At one point, he places his hands flat on the board so he can focus his weight on them so he can 'pop up' and place his feet flat on the board and then stand completely.]
You have to commit to it. If you mess up, you might fall off.
no subject
You make it seem easy, but I'm guessing it's a lot harder than people assume.
